Spanish frigate captures pirate ship in Somalia
The frigate Victoria, with its helicopter support and maritime patrol aircraft P3-A, participating in Operation Atalanta with the EU against piracy in Somali waters, have managed to prevent a boat in the Gulf of Aden from attacking a German oil tanker, according to the Ministry of Defense.
The German ship was attacked by the seven occupants of the small boat, was shot at, returned fire and then began to pursue the boat, but were unable to stop it.
The pirates were trying to reach the Somali coast when the Spanish aircraft caught up with them, made several bursts of gunfire and forced them to stop. The helicopter managed to retain the boat until another unit of the European mission proceeded to board the pirate ship.
