‘Pay what you want holidays’ in Spain
The recession that has caused a collapse in holidays to Spain’s Costas has sparked innovative ways to encourage Britons to return.
One resort is now offering an apartment during April and May to holidaymakers who can pay what they feel the week was worth.
The offer from La Orquidea, which has 30 apartments on the Costa del Sol, is inspired by restaurant owner Sam Lippert, who lets customers pay what they want for meals.
It is an initiative that has spread to Britain, when London chain Little Bay served up the same deal at its Clerkenwell branch for a month, attracting 10,000 customers and an international media frenzy.
Now the pay-what-its-worth policy has spread to holidays, with the Spanish Costas the obvious place to start what could be a trend this summer.
