Telefonica has won a telecommunications and IT equipment contract at Spanish financial institution La Caixa. Under the EUR 365 million contract, Telefonica will expand the banks broadband infrastructure from the current 1,100 offices already connected via fibre-optic networks to 4,200 offices throughout Spain. Telefonica will also provide La Caixa with value-added services to complement and extend the banks existing IP phone network, and support applications such as corporate directory, virtual secretariat or client record. The agreement also includes the provision of mobile telephone services and an advanced messaging platform. Telefonica will also provide integral maintenance of La Caixa technological equipment, which includes over 78,000 workplace devices, such as PCs and multifunctional equipment, as well as support and maintenance of the banks network of over 8,000 ATMs across Spain.
