3 Million Euro Grant to Improve Beaches of Elche
The City of Elche has been awarded funding of over 3 million euro for improving the condition of the beaches of Elche. The funding will greatly improve the access and pleasure of the nine miles of coastline of Elche, between Alicante and Torrevieja.
The City has indicated that the improvements will consist of “Redesigning parking and improved access to beaches with walkways and plantings of native plant species to regenerate the dunes”.
According to Marco, this is a very ambitious project that will take place on the beaches of Carabassí, El Altet, Arenales and La Marina. “In total we will put more than a thousand parking spaces, 450 of them in the Carabassí and 550 in El Altet. We will also be planting 37,500 plants in the dunes of Carabassí.
It is envisaged that these parks will be closed for a period of time, which would eventually end the problems faced by holidaymakers every summer when trying to park at the beach. “The new car parks will allow order and avoid traffic jams in the area and ensure that vehicles park only in prohibited areas,” said the mayor.
They will also create new pathways for access to beaches for providing pedestrians access to the beach. “Some of these bridges will be high in order to allow regeneration of the dunes,” says the mayor.
Some of these walkways will be fenced off to protect the environment.
