At around 09:00 today, a small plane, with only one occupant on board, crashed near the airfield of Odena (Barcelona), close to Igualada, while trying to take off, according to sources.

The plane caught fire because of the crash but the fire was quickly extinguished, according to firefighters.

The pilot was admitted to Vall Hebron hospital in Barcelona, suffering various injuries as a result of the crash.
