Advertising campaign to reach Spanish tourists

The Ministry of Tourism have launched their first campaign to promote tourism aaround Costa Blanca to the citizens of Spain which represents around 7,5 million tourists a year.

The campaign will feature a cross media package of TV ads, billboards, and newspaper adverts and will try to ensure that Valencians choose to enjoy their holidays this year, without leaving home land. The hotels in the Costa Blanca in 2008, accommodated around 700.000 customers from Valencia and Castellon.

The 7.6 million tourists recorded in 2008 by the Tourism Ministry, whose origin was in one of the three provinces of Valencia and Madrid (which accounts for 18% of the total), have convinced the Councilor for Tourism, Angélica Such, to launch the first advertising campaign encouraging Valencians on holiday this year, without leaving the Commonwealth.

In this way, the Council seeks to increase market share and mitigate the collapse of British tourism that is expected to reach 25% this year, according to hotel management that handles 67.000 seats on the Costa Blanca, 56% of all the Community of the province and it has begun to feel the effects of the decline in Easter, especially in the predominantly British favourite of Benidorm, where it is difficult to sell accommodation to the Spanish.

Since the beginning of the year, the region has lost about 120.000 foreign tourists, mainly British. So, while promotions will continue to advertise to the usual visitors to the rest of Spain, the Council will turn its promotional machine on itself.

Furthermore, the Association of Hotels announced yesterday the results of occupation of the city of Alicante during the “bridge” of Easter was 75,35%, five points more than expected and two more than the same period of 2008.
