33 people treated for jellyfish stings at Alicante
A total of 33 people have received medical attention for jellyfish stings, ten of them in a single hour, after bathing at the Postiguet beach Alicante.
The Cruz Roja have issued a warning this afternoon because of the high number of vicitims. Jellyfish stings are not uncommon along the Costa Blanca, but this seemed a particularly high figure for the time of year.
By 17:00 on Sunday, the Cruz Roja had dealt with 25 people who had various conditions related to jellyfish stings. An hour later, that number has risen to 33, so the Cruz Roja alerted the Department of Playas del Ayuntamiento de Alicante.
Jellyfish are becoming an increasing problem. Fishermen are being offered money to remove them on mass from the sea and report groups of them so as bathers can be warned.
