Ministry not responsible for lack of blue flags

The environmental ministry (Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, y Medio Rural y Marino) has pointed out that it is not within their control to grant the Blue Flag creditation to beaches and ports in Spain, but is organized by a private organization (ADEAC-FEE), formed of  an international jury.

The councillor for beaches for the Valencia town hall, Lourdes Bernal, today regretted that some beaches in the region have been left without the Blue Flag, and has suggested the reason may be of a political nature.

The ministry has been issued a statement saying that this is not the case. They emphasize that ADEAC-FEE “has been sufficiently proven and respected for over 25 years, which remains absolutely faithful to the principles and criteria established without bowing to any political pressure, economic or any other nature”.
