Airbus in emergency landing at Gran Canaria

A Norwegian Airbus A320, with 180 passengers on board, has had to make an emergency landing in Gran Canaria after one of its engines caught fire, according to travel firm Ving, the company that had chartered the plane.

“Shortly after takeoff from the airport of Las Palmas, heading to Oslo, the plane was forced to return after seeing signs that not everything was in order,” said Christian Groenlo, spokesperson for Ving.

Several passengers reportedly said that they saw a fire in one of the engines and small explosions.

“It was very frightening. The flames from the engine. We have heard several explosions (…)”, one person was quoted as saying.
