Road safety law proposals

The ruling political party in Spain, the PSOE, hope to get new proposals for road safety approved by congress, after a number of ammendments from other parties.

The main proposals are for all vehicles to display a sticker in the windscreen of the vehicle, similar to the confirmation of ITV (MOT in English) status, which shows that the vehicle is correctly insured.

In addition to that, the Catalan government want public parking places to have audible warning systems to warn drivers of pedestrians in the area.

Perhaps the most significant proposal, and one that has majority agreement, is that all funds collected by the DGT for traffic fines, must be invested directly back into road safety.

On the subject of fines, if you think that you may have been caught committing an offence, the proposals are for an internet site whereas you can go and check. If you descover that you did indeed commit an offence, the wesite will allow you to pay the fine, at a discount of 50%, just for admitting to it before you are summonsed.
