A DREAM holiday turned to a nightmare when a moped crash left a 20-year-old woman fighting for her life in a coma.
Samantha Fisher’s planned four month summer stay on Gibraltar was brought to an abrupt end after just two weeks.
Miss Fisher, of Crossley Crescent, Hoole, and boyfriend Craig Pejic, from Guilden Sutton, had been looking forward to their time in Gibraltar having rented an apartment in La Linea, just over the border in Spain.
It is believed Miss Fisher, who worked on the leisure centre reception at the Mollingon Banastre Hotel, sustained bleeding on the brain in the accident on June 4. She is currently in an induced coma in intensive care with her parents keeping vigil.
Having arrived in the country on May 20, the couple were just days into a trip which was due to last until September.
They had already enjoyed a night at a casino and in a nightclub before the accident. The most recent reports suggest that although she remains in a coma, Samantha’s condition is improving.
Miss Fisher’s page on the social networking site Facebook has been flooded with messages of goodwill from concerned friends, many of whom had attended a barbecue at Mr Pejic’s house to send off the couple just before they left.
On Monday, her friend Danielle Gregory wrote: “Heard the news your fighting through! Hurry up home we want u and ur smile back babes.”
And last Friday, close pal Katie McNicholas wrote: “Your mum has been texting my mum everyday with how u r and u just keep getting stronger and stronger! Thats coz u r a fighter! i knew u wudnt give up easily! keep up babes!”
A close friend said yesterday: “Sam’s an amazing friend, always cheerful and up for a laugh, so I’m sure that like me, everyone is wishing for a speedy recovery for her and can’t wait until she can be brought back to England.”
Preparations are being made for Miss Fisher to be airlifted to the UK.
