A 29 year old Civil Guard officer was arrested Tuesday after his girlfriend, a former soldier identified as Diana and of 30 years of age, died after being shot in the head with the weapon carried by the officer during an argument at their home in the neighborhood of Tafira, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Local newspaper La Provincia reported that the incident occurred at around 13:00 on Tuesday at a residence located on the calle Camilo José Cela, when the agent (ASD), was in the property with his ex girlfriend after the relationship had allegedly terminated a few days before. The officer claims that he had entered the bathroom of the property in order to shower. He then heard a loud bang from inside the property.
The body of a female victim was found on the floor between the hallway and lounge, in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head. Attempts were made to perform CPR on the victim, but without success.
The National Police have not ruled out any hypothesis and an investigation is being carried out to identify whether it is a suspected homicide or suicide, added the sources.
