More foreigners in Alicante
The Alicante region has foreign residents from more than 18 European countries, including UK, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Cyprus, Portugal and Poland, as reflected in the 2008 annual report by the Fundación CeiMigra.
The document, entitled “Migraciones y desarrollo Migration and development” and developed in collaboration with Bancaja, and shows that Alicante is the province with the highest proportion of immigrants compared to the total population of Spain, and that foreigners account for 24% of the population.
In fact, the immigrant population has increased by 87% since 2003 and a staggering 287% since the year 2000.
Of this number of foreigners, 48% come from within the EU, the dominant 52% come from other areas of the world, such as South America.
