More jellyfish attacks

More than 100 people were attended by the Red Cross for jellyfish stings along the eight coastal municipalities of Alicante province on Tuesday.

The Red Cross say the jellyfish first appeared on the beaches of San Juan where there were 51 cases on Tuesday compared to just 18 on Monday.

However the green flags continued flying as there was no evidence of any groups of jellyfish offshore at the time.

There were also 11 stings in Javea, 6 in Torrevieja, 4 on the Orihuela Costa and 4 in Denia during the course of the day.

The most serious case was in Pilar de la Horadada, where a 53 year old man who was stung by a Portuguese Man o’ War just before 17:00. He was attended to by a lifeguard and then taken to the local health centre by ambulance for treatment to the stings he had on both arms and a leg.
