Actress to be sentenced for benefits fraud

A Blackpool actress who performed in murder mystery plays while claiming benefits is to be sentenced.

Edwina Stocker, 57, of Hawthorn Road, performed with theatrical troupes in England and Spain while also claiming disability living allowance.

She also took the role of X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne in a spoof of the hit television show.

tment for Work and Pensions (DWP) officials said she ran a murder mystery company called “In The Dark Murder Company” under the name of Miss Rosemary Devine.

Undercover investigators watched her participating in shows where she played “The Oracle” and was seen to walk around in platform shoes and interact with audience members.

She pleaded guilty to one count of failing to notify the authorities of a change in circumstances between October 2001 and February 2007 at Preston Crown Court in May.

Prosecutor Oliver Cook said she claimed a total of £10,647 during this six-year period.

He said investigators had observation and video evidence of Stocker taking part in different performances.

Stocker will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court at 10.30am.

She is on unconditional bail.
