A British schoolgirl has died while on holiday in the Canary Islands, the Foreign Office confirmed today.

Teenager Jordon Carter, from Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, West Wales, died on Tuesday in Las Palmas, on Gran Canaria.

The headteacher of the school she attended paid tribute to the “well-liked” sixth-former today, saying she would be “sorely missed”.

Islwyn Morgan, head of Milford Haven School, said: “Jordan was a quiet, trustworthy, reliable and extremely well-liked member of the school community.

“In a quiet, unassuming way she took an active part in sixth- form life.

“It was Jordan’s intention to study travel and tourism at Trinity College, Carmarthen. She will be sorely missed by all.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We can confirm that a British national has died in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, on 30 June. Consular assistance is being provided.”

No details on the circumstances of her death were immediately available.
