San Vicente del Raspeig leads the way in tackling youth crime

Cleaning graffiti and maintaining public areas such as parks and gardens, are some of punishments proposed for children who commit an offense, serving the community they have offended against.

This is according to an initiative being undertaken by the municipality of San Vicente del Raspeig, who launched the plan “Comprometidos” for those minors who have committed criminal offenses and should serve to benefit society.

The range of work also includes cleaning of furniture and arrangements of small municipal property damage.

The area’s mayor, María Ángeles Genovés, explained that a number of offending children are currently participating in this program, whose main objective is to re-educate young people and prevent violent behavior in the future. ”

“The program has a monitor that acts as a mentor to young people, in groups of no more than four participants in each working session,” added the mayor.

Genovese has pointed out that in this method not only makes the offender consider the consequences of their actions, but also serves to mitigate the damage done.

The mayor has emphasized the social policy of the local government team (PP) in the area of prevention, training and education for young people of San Vicente, reflected through a range of initiatives, such as “Education in the Street, Conflict Mediation”, “Social Integration through Sport” and “School for Parents.”
