A 2 year old girl has drowned in a swimming pool of a private villa located in the area of Pla del Mar, in the town of Teulada, Alicante, according to official sources.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon. An emergency unit from the Emergency Medical Service (SAMU) attended the scene, and tried unsuccessfully to revive the child.

This is the second case this week in the province of Alicante in which a child died by drowning in a swimming pool.

Last Thursday, an 18 month old boy drowned after rushing, for a reason still unknown, into the pool at the house of his grandparents in the town of Monóvar.
