Los Reyes, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, start their summer holidays in Palma de Mallorca, marked by the mourning of the ETA attack in Palmanova, which claimed the lives of two young Guardia Civil officers.
Despite the terrorist attack by ETA occurring only a few kilometres from the summer residence of the Royal family, the Marivent Palace, the government delegate, Ramón Socías highlights that the attack “does not change anything because, like all the years, it has reinforced security.”
The King and Queen are expected to arrive this afternoon to the military base of Son Sant Joan from the Madeira Islands of Portugal, where they are on an official visit. They will then move to the Marivent Palace.
Normally, the Royal family take two summer breaks, one in the second half of July and one in August, but this year they have reduced their holiday to just one vacation, in August.
