Police arrested 60 people for pirate TV
Police have arrested 60 people, including several presidents of various communities and managers of hotels in neighboring provinces, for hacking the digital pay-TV channel, which could have defrauded the companies by several million euros.
The operation has also resulted in the managers of a web portal, where they were “uploading” TV content, mainly football matches.
These two detainees were responsible for providing the Internet content through a television signal in Spanish and Arabic, for subsequent redeployment or re-streaming via web portals.
They have also been arrested several business managers, traders, heads of communities and owners and managers of hotels, mostly in tourist areas of Andalusia and the Canaries.
The distribution network was via transmission from an antenna, and also through a cable system in various buildings. A subscription fee was charged for the reception of the service.
In addition, they have discovered several networks of cables located in Tenerife, Malaga, Cadiz, Cordoba and Granada, who distributed certain channels and content to its subscribers, without the required authorizations. One of these networks, whose transmitter was in the south of Tenerife, fraudulently issued more than 3,000 users, who were charged a monthly fee, for contents of various foreign channels.
During the operation, officers seized tens of thousands of fraudulent contracts, plus the relevant delivery notes and invoices, evidencing the illegal activity, which shows that the fraud amounted to several million euros.
