The deputy commander of the Guardia Civil in Ceuta, was found dead yesterday with a gunshot to the head, allegedly from his own weapon.

According to sources, the officer has been identified as José Ignacio S., a 27 year old man, native of Marbella (Malaga).

The Guardia Civil have opened an investigation to determine whether the shooting was accidental or voluntary.

The death has caused great sorrow in the city as the young man was thought to have a great future, according to colleagues of the deceased.

Update:

The investigation has now confirmed that the firearm was not set off accidentally, not was the weapon fired by anybody else. It is therefore assumed that the officer was responsible for his own death, by an intentional shot to the head. The investigation is ongoing to attempt to ascertain the reasons for this tragedy.
