An explosion at a fireworks display in Teror (Gran Canaria) has resulted in one person being killed and another suffering burns, according to sources of the Center for Emergency and Security Coordinator (Cecoes).
It is believed that more people may be trapped inside the building and fears are growing that they too may have perished.
The blast, which occurred at around 15:15, has caused a fire which fire fighters are still working to extinguish.
Sources from the Municipality of Teror have said that the wounded man, aged 37, is the son of the owner of the fireworks company, a family firm with a long history in making fireworks.
At first, firefighters could not access the site, because of smaller explosions within the fire, threatening the safety of the operatives.
Two neighbouring houses were evacuated as a precaution, but it is not thought that they are at risk. The site of the fire is close, but did not reach the Osorio Natural Park, where there is extensive vegetation.
