Terrorist suspects arrested in France
Three alleged ETA terrorists have been arrested in France this morning, including Alberto Machain Beraza, one of the six most wanted terrorists, whose image appears on posters distributed by the Interior Ministry after the latest attacks in Mallorca. French police have also arrested Aitzol Etxaburu and Andoni Sarasola.
Spanish Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, has confirmed that those arrested were responsible for the logistics of military apparatus for ETA, “they are responsible for supplying weapons and explosives to the commands. They were armed, and records have been found four guns, equipment, a Peugeot van stolen in France, 42 detonators and explosives ready to explode,” said Rubalcaba, who has since qualified that he could not specify “the degree of preparation of this material.”
The arrests have occurred in Le Corbier, in the region of Saboya in the French Alps. The operation was carried out by the French Judicial Police in collaboration with the Spanish security forces. These arrests have also helped locate a hideout in a village in the Pyrenees, about 40 kilometers from the Spanish border, which contained more than 100 kilos of explosives, according to the minister.
Rubalcaba said that in the coming days they will analyze the wealth of material found in the possession of the prisoners and that when there is no evidence yet linking them to the delivery of the explosives used to attacks this summer in Mallorca and Burgos.
