A forest fire at Gormaig, between the towns of Alcoy and Cocentaina, has forced the evacuation of some householders from a residential development this afternoon.

At 16:30 today, the Emergency Coordination Center has confirmed that the fire is sweeping through a gorge, reporting that at this time there is no danger to the surrounding forests.

The councillor for the Environment of Alcoy, Santiago Botella, has attended the scene of the fire.

Seven aircraft, and troops of the Consortium of Provincial Rural Fire brigades are currently battling to extinguish the flames.
