Air Europa plane makes emergency landing at Barcelona

20090913air_europaAn Air Europa aircraft on a flight from Barcelona to Madrid has made an emergency landing at El Prat airport, Barcelona, ten minutes after takeoff. The incident occurred at 12:35 today when an engine failure indication illuminated in the cockpit.

Passengers reported noise and a tremor. The pilot requested an immediate return to the airport and the emergency crash landing protocol was initiated by the flight crew.

On landing, the aircraft was surrounded by fire fighting equipment, which is a normal procedure during this type of emergency.

Passengers were transferred to another aircraft and landed at Madrid-Barajas airport shortly before 17:00, some 4 hours later than scheduled.
