Family of Liverpool man murdered in Spain to sue Spanish government

20090923echrTHE family of a Liverpool man murdered in Spain forced to wait three years to bring his body home are suing the Spanish government.

Gary Dunne’s parents today said they had submitted a legal application to the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The 22-year-old man was murdered by machete-wielding killer Victor Posse Navas on the Costa Del Sol in 2006.

But unfathomable legal headaches and complex hygiene laws meant they were confronted with several obstacles to bring back Gary’s remains to West Derby.

Now, law firm Rex Makin & Co has launched a new bid to claim up to £35,000 compensation.

Mum and dad Stephen and Lesley want to recoup the money they spent during the three years they were campaigning for his body to be released. If successful, the case will be listed and heard at the French court.

However, it could be many months before that stage is reached.

Dad Stephen told the ECHO today : “I have got absolutely no inhibitions about suing the Spanish government, even though they eventually gave us Gary back.

“ The fact is they should never have behaved as they did .

“They put us through three years of hell.”
