Traffic cop sacked for stealing credit card from dead crash victim

20091027a47e30d_mThe Guardia Civil has sacked a traffic officer from Pontevedra, accused of using a credit card of a dead man in a road accident after going to the scene which occurred in 2002. The decision to sack the officer occurred after a trial de Pontevedra, where the court found the officer guilty of crimes of fraud and forgery of commercial papers, according to La Voz de Galicia.

The agent admitted that after the accident that killed three people, a credit card was removed from one of the victims whislt other officers were dealing with the scene of the incident.

The officer has been sentenced to one year in prison and 2.880 euros fine. The condemned man was working in Traffic Police Station at Porrino.

Shortly after the incident, the agent began using the card and between October 2002 and April 2003, made up to 68 transactions, accumulating more than 1.300 euro in costs, an amount that was returned before conviction.

The prison sentence was suspended in view of the fine, but the decision to sack the officer was maintained.

The agent even “signed the tickets on behalf of the deceased,” the court Pontevedra said.
