Spain: rocks crush bathers
At least two people were killed on Sunday when rocks from a cliff crashed onto a beach in Spain’s Canary Islands, a police spokesperson said.
A further four to six people may be trapped under the rocks, which came loose from the cliff at Los Gigantes beach on the island of Tenerife and fell some 40 metres onto bathers, a spokesperson for the Civil Guard police force on the island said.
He said emergency services have recovered the bodies of two women, but did not indicate their nationalities.
More than 100 police, medics, firefighters and troops were at the scene.
The Canary Islands archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean is a popular tourist destination.
