Compromised credit cards under investigation in Spain

A major credit card scam may have emerged in Spain.

It has been suggested that visitors to Spain, using Visa or Mastercard, may have had their card data compromised.

In Germany, as many as 100,000 cards have reportedly been recalled after Spanish police investigated a credit card processing company, believed to possibly be at the centre of a scam.

Visa Europe has confirmed there has been an investigation of card data security in Spain, but has said it does not believe the problem is specific to Visa.

Both Visa and Mastercard have insisted their systems were not compromised but say there was a problem in the payment chain.
