84 Year old woman knocked down and killed by Guardia Civil

An 84 year old woman was been killed on Saturday, after she was hit by a patrol of the Guardia Civil in Madrid.

The victim, María Carmen Moreno, was run over on the sidewalk in one of the busiest streets of the capital, Bravo Murillo.

The incident occurred about 16:40 in the intersection of Bravo Murillo and José Abascal.

The unmarked Renault Laguna patrol car, with blue lights flashing, was travelling at high speed at the time, transporting a suspect to the city court in the recent “Segi” case (SEGI is the youth wing of the terrorist group ETA).

The initial report indicates that the patrol car took evasive action to avoid hitting another vehicle, resulting in the collision with the victim on the sidewalk, as she was on her way to the bus stop.

The woman, who suffered severe head trauma and multiple injuries, was transferred in critical condition at the Gregorio Marañon Hospital, where she eventually died about 19:00 that afternoon.

The family has filed a murder complaint in the Magistrate’s Court number 18 of Madrid. Based on the testimony of several witnesses, who report that the police vehicle was travelling at high speed and allegedly jumped two red lights.
