Guardia Civil officer killed at accident scene

A 35-year Guardia Civil officer has has been killed in a traffic accident in Madrid. The officer was directing traffic past a previous minor collision when he was hit by another vehicle.

The officer was directing traffic after the previous accident in which the driver was unhurt. An approaching vehicle failed to observe the scene in front of them and collided with the Guardia Civil car.

On arrival at the scene, an ambulance from the SAMUR could only certify the death of the policeman, who died almost instantly as a result of injuries suffered. The paramedics also transported the driver of the second vehicle, a woman of 48, who was in a serious condition. They also had to provide psychological assistance to both the companion Guardia Civil officer as the first driver who witnessed all the event.

Details of the incident have only just been released.
