Scammers arrested in Benidorm
NINE people belonging to a network running a timeshare scam have been arrested by National Police in Benidorm.
The investigation began when a victim reported they had been tricked out of 3,000 euros for the purchase of a timeshare property in the Canary Islands, and it was found that the same network had targeted several other people throughout Spain, doing them out of up to 130,000 euros.
The boss, who had an extensive knowledge of IT systems, would contact the clients and obtain the money, but the group had a pyramidal structure in which each member had their own task.
The detainees include a Russian, a Paraguayan, a Croatian, an Englishman, an Argentinean, two Uruguayans and two Spaniards.
