Spain’s hotels recorded 4.5 million overnight stays in November, a decrease of 8.3% over the same month in 2008.
The figure came as a surprise after declines moderated in October, according to figures released today by the National Institute of Statistics ( INE).
With these data, hotel bookings were down for seven consecutive decreases in the year rate, after April, the month in which the nights spent in Spanish hotels surged by 2% thanks to the Easter break.
Travellers, residents in Spain, increased their overnight stays by 0.1% in November on-year rate, while among non-residents it decreased by 10.7%.
The average stay fell by 2.6% compared to November 2008 and stood at 6.3 nights per tourist. The price index in apartments recorded a 0.6% drop in November, while the fee for tour operators and travel agencies fell by 0.5% in the interannual rate.
