Spanish tourism on the increase

During November the Region of Valencia saw a 1.8% increase in overnight hotel stays of Spanish residents, the greatest increase of all autonomous regions and one that consolidates the Region of Valencia as the second favourite destination for national tourism behind Andalusia. 318,136 travellers spent 917,605 nights in hotels in Valencia, according to the latest Hotel Occupation Survey carried out by the National Statistics Institute.

By provinces, we should highlight the increase in overnight stays by Spanish residents in Castellón, with an increase of 16.8% over November 2008, giving 124,542 overnight stays in all. November was also a good month for the province of Valencia, where overnight stays increased by 5.7%, giving a total of 35,237, a figure boosted by the celebration of major sporting events that included the Valencia Open 500 tennis tournament and the Ferrari World Finals.

Although the province of Alicante saw overnight hotel stays fall by 4%, the Costa Blanca was the tourist area with the highest occupation in November, with 440,264 overnight stays by Spanish residents. In addition, Benidorm is still the tourist resort with the highest occupation, with 319,498 overnight stays by residents in Spain.
