The Guardia Civil [Spanish Civil Guard] discovered four weapons stashes and one drop-box owned by the terrorist group ETA that were located at various points around the Autonomous Region of the Basque Country.
These discoveries came as the result of investigations carried out after the arrest of the alleged ‘liberated’ member of ETA, Ibai BEOBIDE, on 13 February 2010 during an operation undertaken by the Grupo de Acción Rápida (GAR) [Rapid Response Force] of the Guardia Civil in the municipality of Zizurkil (Guipúzcoa).
During the operation, Ibai BEOBIDE was taken from the prison where he is being held to the various locations where the discovery was made of several rooms regularly used by the terrorist group to store explosive material, weapons and documents. The operation took place in the presence of the detainee’s lawyer and by virtue of a judicial order issued by the Judge of the Juzgado Central de Instrucción número 2 de la Audiencia Nacional [Central Criminal Court Nº 2 of the High Court].
