Captured burglar is Bosnian war monster Veselin Vlahovic

Police swooped on a gang of burglars targeting holiday homes on Spain´s Costa Blanca – and found they had arrested a Serbian war criminal accused of more than 100 killings.

“Monster of Grbavica” Veselin Vlahovic, 40, was in a top security jail in Madrid last night after a judge ruled that proceedings should start for his extradition as a war criminal. He is accused of mass murder, rape and torture during the Bosnian war over a decade ago. Most of his victims were women and children.

Vlahovic was arrested in Montenegro in 1998, but escaped from prison three years later.

He was held last week after police swooped on his home in Altea, near Benidorm.

He is believed to have been living on the Costa Blanca for the past five years, hiding behind three different identities.
