The use of ‘botox’ increased by 25% last year in Spain.
Spain is the fifth country in the world as the number of procedures and aesthetic treatments, and the first in Europe. 90 percent of botox treatments performed in the last year were for women, most (70%) between 35 and 65.
The use of botulinum toxin known as Botox, has increased by 25 percent in the last year in Spain and has become the most requested cosmetic treatment, followed by facial fillers – they occupied before the top of the most popular – laser facial rejuvenation, laser hair removal, micro-dermabrasion and chemical peels, according to a study by London Clinic.
In the general map of aesthetic treatments, both surgical and non surgical, Botox continues to appear in the first place, followed by breast augmentation, rhinoplasty and liposuction.
In this same age group there has been a greater use of non-surgical intervention, post-Botox, such as facial fillers, the ´resurfacing´ facial laser, laser hair removal, micro-dermabrasion and chemical ´peeling´.
Dr. Carlos San Martín, head of the Unit of Aesthetic Medicine Clinic in London, explains the most frequent reason these patients carry out beauty treatments is to “feel better and looking younger and more natural.”
Botulinum toxin is a natural protein that works by relaxing the nerve impulses to the facial muscles related to expression lines by preventing contraction. “They are – explains Dr. San Martín – virtually painless injections located in the facial muscles of the upper third of the face, and after implementation there remains a smooth natural expressiveness.” “The injection duration is 10 minutes and treatment effects appear after a day or two,” he said.
