Inquest on man who drowned

An inquest into the death of a pub chef, who drowned while late-night swimming on holiday in Spain, is to be held in September.

Mark Porter was 29 when he died last October along with Michelle Clydesdale, 24, from Scotland, after reportedly being hit by “freak waves” on the beach at the resort of Salou.

Mr Porter worked at the Bell pub in High Street, Haverhill, and lived at Haverhill Road, Little Wratting.

A documentary inquest into his death, with no witnesses called, will take place at the Athenaeum in Bury St Edmunds on September 21.

Reports at the time said Mr Porter and Ms Clydesdale were part of a group who met on a night out and went for a midnight swim. Their bodies were washed up at 2.30am.

His devastated parents Bill Porter, 55, and his wife Polly, 55, were told their only son had died by one of his best friends.
