IRISHMAN SHOT DEAD IN BRAWL

A 40 year old Irishman died on Wednesday after being shot following a pub brawl in Avenida Antonio Machado, Benalmadena according to 112 emergency sources .

Emergency Services received the call from several members of the public at 3.20 hours on Wednesday morning. Many had heard gunshots in the area of Arroyo de la Miel, warning that the body of a man was lying on the pavement. John O'Neill from Coolock in Dublin was shot following a row with another man in a bar.

It is believed that the man returned to the scene armed with a firearm and shot Mr O'Neill in the stomach. Father-of-two young children Mr O'Neill was understood to be holidaying in the resort with his girlfriend at the time. It is believed she was in the bar with him when he was shot but that she was uninjured.

National Police Officers and medical staff arrived on the scene to find that the man had been shot several times. A spokesman said that the severity of the wounds led to the victim's death. The National Police has taken over the investigation.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death after being informed of the incident by the Guardia Civil in Spain.

Meanwhile earlier in the week, on Sunday, a British man was injured when he was shot while inside his home, in the municipality of Mijas.

The incident occurred just minutes after midnight on Sunday in the village of Cala Azul in La Cala de Mijas. The victim, identified as SL aged 34, was wounded in the abdomen.

He was taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet. Fortunately there was no damage to any of his internal organs.

According to a spokesman the victim was sitting in his living room when a stranger put his hand through the open window firing two shots, the first of which missed. The Civil Guard consider that it could possibly be a settling of accounts.
