NIJAR TOURIST KIOSKS CLOSE DOWN

Nijar Tourist Info

On September 15 the tourist season officially ended in Nijar resulting in the closure of the three summer tourist information kiosks located in San Jose, Las Negras and Aguamarga.

Immediately they closed their doors the department quickly went to work in compiling statistics regarding the kiosks use.

"They have been open for three months" said Lorena Capel, Councillor for Tourism “and the first thing I want to do is to acknowledge the commitment of the staff and volunteers at the University of Almeria, who has been the public face of our town during the summer period. Thanks to their training, knowledge of our country and good manners in dealing with the visitors, we have been able to offer a friendly and efficient service."

Not only have the people manning the kiosks been required to give advice regarding the historic town and its territories they have also been required to have a good knowledge of the many events and activities taking place in the region including horseback riding, kayaking, scuba diving and the leisure interest that has been in most demand, information on boat trips along the coast. "

The kiosks have also been a point of information for cultural and sporting events, featuring many posters and brochures for all the municipal events. They have also been used as a ticket office offering the possibility of purchasing tickets to events and festivals organised by the city throughout the town.

For the first time this year the kiosks have been connected to the internet which has improved tremendously the internal organisation expanding the information service and offering the possibility of network access to visitors," said Lorena Capel.
