FORMER MAYOR REMINDS OF HIS CAUSE
In a press conference on behalf of the Partido Popular this week, the former mayor of Torrevieja, Pedro Hernández Mateo, has reminded the current government of Torrevieja of his previous pledges whilst in office, so as they do not lose track of the development work he had progressed whilst in office.
The mayor, who had himself faced court proceedings recently, reminded the current mayor, Eduardo Dolón of the need for the construction of the National Police Station, the developments of the N-332 coastal road, the construction of a drainage system and the implementation of a branch of the Inland Revenue, in accordance with Torrevieja being the third largest city in the province and the fifth in Valencia.

The Torrevieja Hospital has announced that it has joined an international network that integrates the most advanced medical centres in the world.

ARRESTS FOR IRON THEFT
The Guardia Civil in Alicante have arrested six men, all believed to be of Romanian origin, accused of a crime of theft, after they were caught cutting iron beams from the roof of a warehouse in Villena.
The men, aged between 23 and 43, only carried out the work in the evening, which raised the suspicions of investigating officers. After checking with the owner of the building, they found that the work was not approved and have now sought criminal case against the men who they found had forced their way into the premises to carry out the theft.
MUM AND SON DRUG RING SMASHED
A 47 year old woman and her two sons aged 23 and 26, all of Czech nationality, have been arrested in Alicante accused of cultivating and distributing cannabis at their home in the city centre, where a greenhouse has been dismantled and 320 marijuana plants, eleven kilograms of the drug, 600 euro in cash and numerous tools and instruments for the cultivation of cannabis were seized.
In addition, those arrested had been fraudulently using a power supply from outside their property, not paying for their electricity being used.
The family will be put before the courts facing a range of fraud and drug related charges.
PAY MORE FOR YOUR LEMONS
The president of the group of Valencia citrus growers, José Barrés Gabardá, has asked that all farmers have a unified approach and increase the prices of the fruit, to avoid recent losses incurred as some farmers were unable to compete.
Some farmers have been giving fruit away, as they were unable to afford to package and sell the fruit due to the lower prices across the sector.
The president also stressed that "we need to revive citrus consumption in foreign markets and continue to undertake promotion, marketing communication and enabling a better position for the distribution of citrus fruit".
