LAS RAMBLAS GOLF SOCIETY – REPORT FOR WE. 3 FEB

There was Sunday golf for a lot of us this week with the first round of the Quara Members Cup which the Quara group organise for all annual members of Las Ramblas & La Finca. The first of 6 qualifying rounds was held at Las Ramblas and our society members have made an encouraging start with Heinz Lei actually winning the Category Two section with 36 pts.

Other performances worthy of mention were from Phil Herrington(36 pts) & Tom Hardie(33 Pts) who were second and fourth in Category One and Donna Campbell who was second with 37 pts in the ladies section.

On Monday we played a Two Ball Better Ball which was won with 42 pts by the pairing of Dave Pulling & Rod Doel. Runners up with 41 pts were Neil Robotham & Brian Dent.

Wednesday's competition was a Singles Stableford in which scoring with a couple of exceptions was not brilliant. There were good rounds from Neil Robotham(40 pts) in Category One & Tony Brooks(37 pts) in Category Two and it was a very profitable day for Barry Holtham who had the only two in the 2s Club. This was partly down to me as I missed a two foot putt on the 6th which was harder to miss than sink. This just about summed up my day. The full results were:

Cat 1. 1. Neil Robotham 40 pts, 2. Brian Townend 35 pts, 3. John Wheeler 34 pts.
Cat 2. 1. Tony Brooks 37 pts, 2. Carole Wheeler 35 pts, 3. Rod Doel 34 pts.

What was Friday about. I don't think that I have ever been as cold on a golf course in my life. The freezing wind was too much for my Fourball who came off to cries of "wimps" from the others at the 9th. The remaining ' headbangers' continued to play the remaining holes of our Best 2 from 4 whilst we thawed out with coffees & brandies in the bar. I know who I think had more sense.

Anyway the winners with a score of 83 pts were the all ladies team of Olga Haubner, Brenda Lei & Janice Holtham who played with"Albert" our new version of Mr X. I am told that it was even colder for our Vega Baja League team who played their Febuary fixture at the exposed Font de Llop course near Aspe. It was too much for most of the team as we continued our poor season with a 3-1 loss to Club 25 Serena. Our only winners were the team of Phil Herrington & Nick Campbell. Well done to them.
