There was a competition to guess the distance of the new captains first drive

Wednesday 1st February, La Galiana - Sponsored by “Groves Construction”. This week the Warblers made their first ever visit to La Galiana, this challenging and spectacular course providing quite a test to most members not just for the golf but also some of the buggy routes were a bit like a white knuckle ride.

The new captain David Knight took charge this week and after an excellent first drive he proceeded to attack the course finishing with a brilliant 37 points off 8.9, in second place was the newly promoted Ron Steele scoring 33 off 17.1, third and fourth shared 30 points but Jim Rodgers overcame Rob Fallon on count back. Category two saw the ever steady Barbara Pollitt on top with 33 off 22.7 just beating her doubles partner Ken Robinson on count back and third spot went to Jan Wilson and fourth Peter Gibson.

The nearest the pin prizes went to David Rogers on the 5th, David Corcoran 7th, Malcolm Robinson 12th and Howard Kennerley on the 14th, there was a competition to guess the distance of the new captains first drive, entry fee €1.00 and the winner of the cash was Keith Lockyer who donated all the winnings to Jenny's charity.

Next week, Wednesday the 15th of February, the Warblers will be at Bonalba to compete for the “Valentines Cup” a medal event. Please be there before 09.15 for a 10.00 first tee.
