ENVIRONMENTAL INPROVEMENTS AT MOUTH OF GORGOS RIVER

The Town Hall Services and Environment Department has concluded works to improve the landscape, maintain the habitat and restore the banks of the Gorgos riverbed close to the mouth.
With regard to the environmental aspects, vegetation blocking the Gorgos river bed in this section has been removed, including canes, brambles and other invasive shrubs, as well as the bases of eucalyptus trees.

Some specimens of tarays or tamarisk, a shrub which helps to consolidate soil that is sporadically subject to strong currents, have also been pruned. An additional 40 of these shrubs will be planted, forming, together the seniller, a habitat of high environmental value that can only be found in a contact area where salt and fresh water meet, such as the mouth of the river.

Additionally, the Town Hall of Javea has used small machinery, excavators and hand tools to level and compact eroded areas and remove the garbage from the riverbed.
This maintenance work is a continuation of the efforts being carried out by the Department headed by Doris Courcelles to restore the banks of the río Gorgos in its urban sections and improve this area of great environmental and scenic value. In recent months the Javea Town Hall has also built a viewpoint and a park area that runs parallel to the river and intends to continue with more maintenance and cleaning work.
