JAVEA HOSTS UNED COURSE ON EQUALITY

The extension of the National Long Distance University (UNED) in Javea will offer a short a course on the practices of equality that is worth two elective credits. The face-to-face classes will be held on the Saturdays of 25 February, 3 and 10 March, from 10 am to 2 pm, and will be taught in the Municipal Library of Javea. An additional 8 hours of class will be dedicated to practice sessions that may be carried out long-distance.

Those interested in enrolling may sign up until Friday, February 17th between 9 am to 2 pm on the second floor of the Casa de Cultura in Javea. Please bear in mind that places are limited. (More information at info@javea.uned.es)

According to Raquel Martí, Co-Director of the course entitled "Family-Work Balance: A Common Future", the course will explore the current situation of the challenges of equality between men and women, both in the public and private areas, and will feature high-level speakers.

In Martí's opinion, today's society still follows certain stereotypes when it comes to carrying out domestic work or defining the labour system, insisting on the need to renew this model and promote real co-responsibility between men and women in day-to-day decision-making.

Javea's Councillor for Education and Equality, Empar Bolufer, informs that both departments are involved in this University Extension course and indicated that the UNED is increasingly more active in the municipality, making the collaboration of the municipality also greater. Bolufer pointed out that as an educational town, Javea is aware of the importance of offering the maximum opportunities for education and training to all segments of the population, including the adult population. The UNED senior section is evidence of this.

Furthermore, the director of the UNED Denia-Javea-Benidorm Extension, Carlos Torres, insisted on this idea by ensuring that courses like this are not only targeted at young people, but they are also an opportunity for people of older ages who, for political and social reasons, were not educated in equality. Torres has indicated that UNED is working on a project in the Women's Observatory and that it will be offering more specific training aimed at all those who are motivated to achieve a fairer society for men and women.
